Singapore Kuching Goodwill Camp 2009

On 2nd June, 2009 at around 1pm the Singapore Scout contingent made up of 4 schools from Clementi District are getting ready for the trip to Sarawak. It was an exciting program for us because it is not often that this kind of trip is being held. By 3.05pm we were already in the plane. First-timers like me could hardly believe that we are in a plane. Although we were having quite a hard time with the mask, it did not deter the excitement that we felt in the plane.
After an hour in the plane, it felt really good to be on land again. A student from the contingent even remark,”I’m still alive!”Although it was rude of him to say something like that, but it was hilarious. By 4.30pm, we were already at the entrance of the arrival hall in Kuching taking pictures with the Kuching scout. Everybody was glad that there are indoors as the rain started pouring heavily. To sum it all, we reach Camp Permai and had dinner before the briefing for the next day.
The next day, 3rd June 8, 2009 was rather tiring for us. We had high rope elements and the obstacle course. The obstacle course really test our teamwork because it really took us some time before we manage to overcome the obstacle and we didn’t even manage to solve one of the obstacle as we took so long. The high rope element was quick and fast and it was over before we knew it. We had dinner and again another briefing
The following days was followed by an exhausting exercise and a visit to Sarawak Cultural Village before we headed for Kubah National Park for the night. The Sarawak cultural Village showcases the different ethnic group in Sarawak and it really was fun to know the different ethnic group. The Kubah national park was something that everyone was looking forward as we were suppose to have Campfire with the Kuching scout but it was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We had some food and games before we headed for the nightwalk.By 12.30a.m, everybody was already in bed.
The next day, we went for a jungle walk to the waterfall which many of us thought as fun. It was due to the first-time experience with leech! Everybody was complaining when we reach at the waterfall as everybody kept on slipping and fall as it was very slippery>but the ordeal was over before we knew it. After lunch, we went to transfer to Grand Magherita Hall. We went to the Scout HQ at Kuching for dinner where we met the Rovers there. To sum it all, the stay in Grand Magherita Hotel was not as exciting as the one in the jungle. We had a city tour and some shopping before we headed for Singapore on 7th June, 2009.
Finally, everybody was glad that they are back at home. It was a once in a lifetime experience. A trip that will never be forgotten.
